Which Novel is better?

So, out of the three, Th Old Man and the Sea, The Pearl, and A Christmas Carol, which is the best? Which writer is better, Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, or John Stienbeck? I think that the pearl was the best book but I like Hemingway better in terms of writing style and beleifs. So, what about you? Who do you like better, which book is better?

John Steinbeck

Q:What do you think these quotes reveal about JS's veiw of Life?
"In this gulf of unceatain light, there were more illusiions than realities"p 19
"She had no prayede direcltyfor the recovery of the baby-she had prayed that they might find a pearl with wich to higher the docter to cure the baby, for the minds of people are as unsubstanceial as the mirage of the gulf"p 16

A:I think these quotes reveal a lot of what JS thinks of life and everything in it. The Pearl is basicly JS's veiw of society, greed, and corupption. I think that JS had some problem with depression and saw every good thing as a lie or hoax. The "mirages" and "illusions" mentioned in both quotes are the good things that he see's as lies. In the Pearl, the pearl and the misfourtune it brings are examples of his beleif that good things, are fake, at least I think so.

Ernest Hemigway, My View

Ernest Hemingway was a great man, and could have been greater if he knew the Truth. i respect his veiws on quiting and fighting through. That is something that I often try to model in my life, specificly in sports. Whenever I'm in pain I just grin and bare it, or at least i try. Hemingway comes across to me as someone who would never quit something once he started it, wo why then did he commit suicide? i think it's just that he got in to the pit of depression and couldn't get out, or he thought he couldn't. Sometimes people just think that the only way out of the strains of life is, one word, death. I should know. Many times I've gotten in that situation, but I didn't do it. It all comes down to what your thinking and how your thinking. Ernest Hemingway would have been a greater man if he had the truth, that's my veiw.

Scrooge vs. Santiago Cont.

i want your opinions. Who do you like better, Scrooge or Santiago? Which do you think is a better person on the whole? I'm personly thinking that santiago is the best answer for both those questions. Santiago is an old man who is honest, and is trying to get by. His endurance and nobility in his actions, to me make him greater than Scrooge. I will give Scrooge that he was great in the end but he had a few problems in the end. So, what do you think?

Scrooge vs. Santiago

There are several simularities between the two main characters of A Christmas Carol and The Old Man and the Sea. Scrooge and Santiago both require redemtion. Scrooge, being a cold hearted old man at the start needs spiritual redemtion or he will be doomed to walking the earth as a ghost. Santiago has lost his luck and reputation and needs to get them both back. Scrooge accomplishes his redemtion through the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Santiago gets his reputaion back by catching the marlin. Another simularity is that they both are determined to do well in what they do. Scrooge is determined to hoard his money, though he never uses it. Santiago is determined to get his reputation back, to prove himself if you will. Another simularity is that both there names start with S!Barzul!~
